In 1987, four women established an organization that would not only serve as a voice for women in an academic setting, but would also provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment. Two decades later we encompass 30 Undergraduate Chapters at 47 colleges and universities, as well as 13 Graduate/Professional Chapters—Theta Beta serving Rhode Island alumnae Hermanas.
Our essence is epitomized by our commitment to the political and social advancement of under-represented populations, as well as by the diverse cultural backgrounds and customs that allow the Hermanas to share each other's heritage. Although Latina-based, Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. is a non-discriminatory organization made up of women from all cultures, creeds, political beliefs, and sexual preferences.
As mothers and daughters, wives and professionals, our Hermanas have continued to uphold the legacy our Founders, a testament to our motto that promises a commitment to our Hermandad, our goals and ideals – Hasta La Muerte!
We hope that you pursue your interest in our organization. Please feel free to browse our website and contact us for more information.
