First Latina Greek Organization to Win 1st Place
at StompFest

New York, NY - The National Performance Team (NPT) of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. made history for being the first Latina Greek organization to place first at StompFest, held on Saturday, November 6, 2004 in Rhode Island.

After placing second at the Latinosstep.com Championship Tournament this past summer, NPT was determined to prove that their routine deserves no less than first place and they did just that. The savvy, lively and unique Señoritas dominated the stage with their infamous "CATWOMEN" routine. Similar to the summer show, audiences raved about their performance.

Hundreds of spectators stood to their feet and gave the Señoritas a standing ovation for their outstanding performance. "Our amazing 'sitting position', as the public calls it, made the crowd go wild; they did not know how, who, and what they saw, they just knew it was HOT!" said Jennifer Ortiz, NPT President.

"I have to say that at first we were all very nervous. Performing for the Noble Nine is nerve wracking. They've been stepping for over 50 years so Latino Greeks are considered 'new to the game.' All we wanted to do was show them that we can get down too and make sure we stood out and added our own Latina Greek flavor to it as well as prove to others that we truly have a winning routine."

The team has utilized the recommendation of their critics from the summer show and has taken their show on the road. NPT is expected to perform at Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. Founders' Day National Convention on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at Yale University.

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University as an organization that would provide sisterhood and support while also promoting academic achievement, service to the community and cultural enrichment. Almost seventeen years since its establishment, the organization has expanded to 30 schools across the country, touching the lives of more than 300 women.
