"It was important for SLU to take part in this event. Cancer is a disease that affects people in many different ways. Many of our Hermanas have family and/or friends who have been poisoned by the disease and/or have died because of it. Our organization lives for community service and literacy and what a great way to educate others and each other by participating in such a moving service through Relay For Life. It was the first time we participated in this event as a region. It was amazing and truly an eye opener. Surrounding oneself with survivors was so inspiring to me," said Hermana Denishea Flannigan, Upstate Regional Director. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. It is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. The program unites millions of people in thousands of communities nationwide each year are dedicated to raising money to help eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from the disease. Every dollar raised makes a difference to people whose lives are touched by cancer. "I felt the event was very motivating. I could feel the love and dedication people have to fight cancer. It was the best event that I've ever taken part in It was such a FAMILY event. There were activities for kids to participate in so there was no reason for anyone to turn down the opportunity to participate Overall, the event was a blessing and SLU will continue to participate in this event annually."
