The Hermanas of both Psi Chapter and the Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter were among 600 community members who celebrated "new life" for people who have survived cancer and paid special memory to those that lost their lives to cancer. Participants also helped to raise money for cancer research and programs supported by the American Cancer Society. By the completion of the program, supporters helped to raise over $19,000. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. It is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. The program unites millions of people in thousands of communities nationwide each year to raise money to help prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease. "I was very touched while participating in Relay for Life. Seeing the survivors taking that first lap holding hands with their family members and friends brought tears to my eyes. This event was an eye opening experience for me because Cancer does not discriminate I look forward to participating in this event again," said Hermana Maria Caldwell-Richart, Vice President of the Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter.
