Wins NALFO 2004 Undergraduate of the Year Award
New York, NY - Hermana Christine Morillo of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas
Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was the recipient of the Undergraduate
of the Year Award at the Latino Greek Awards presented by the National
Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations held on Saturday, October
2, 2004.
The awards gala served as an opportunity for Latino fraternities and
sororities to celebrate and showcase their contributions on a national
level. Sigma Lambda Upsilon is very proud of the accomplishments of
its chapters and Hermanas, especially Hermana Christine who received
recognition for her continuing success in academics, her commitment
to the community and her promotion of cultural awareness and sisterhood.

I actually won. I knew that there would be so many people in the running
for it so I'm flattered to be the recipient
Overall, I congratulate
all the nominees. Every Latina Greek should be recognized every day
for what we do. Good luck to you all and keep up the good work,"
said Hermana Christine Morillo.
Hermana Christine is a senior nursing major at St. John Fisher College
in Rochester, NY. Over the years, she has worked as a CNA at Rochester
General Hospital while going to school full time, maintaining a good
grade point average, and actively participating in the sorority.
Currently,
Hermana Christine is a member of the National Judicial Board and President
of Psi Chapter. Through the sorority, she stays connected with both
her campus and local community by conducting various programs and
community services. In the past, Hermana Christine has held board
positions within her college Latino Student Union and Nurses Association
as well as worked as a youth counselor for the Puerto Rican Youth
Development in Rochester.
Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc.
was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University as an organization
that would provide sisterhood and support while also promoting academic
achievement, service to the community and cultural enrichment. Almost
seventeen years since its establishment, the organization has expanded
to 30 schools across the country, touching the lives of more than
300 women.
