New York, NY - Hermana Christine Morillo of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was the recipient of the Undergraduate of the Year Award at the Latino Greek Awards presented by the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations held on Saturday, October 2, 2004.

The awards gala served as an opportunity for Latino fraternities and sororities to celebrate and showcase their contributions on a national level. Sigma Lambda Upsilon is very proud of the accomplishments of its chapters and Hermanas, especially Hermana Christine who received recognition for her continuing success in academics, her commitment to the community and her promotion of cultural awareness and sisterhood.

"I am honored to win this award. I was very shock to hear that I actually won. I knew that there would be so many people in the running for it so I'm flattered to be the recipient… Overall, I congratulate all the nominees. Every Latina Greek should be recognized every day for what we do. Good luck to you all and keep up the good work," said Hermana Christine Morillo.

Hermana Christine is a senior nursing major at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. Over the years, she has worked as a CNA at Rochester General Hospital while going to school full time, maintaining a good grade point average, and actively participating in the sorority.

Currently, Hermana Christine is a member of the National Judicial Board and President of Psi Chapter. Through the sorority, she stays connected with both her campus and local community by conducting various programs and community services. In the past, Hermana Christine has held board positions within her college Latino Student Union and Nurses Association as well as worked as a youth counselor for the Puerto Rican Youth Development in Rochester.
