Hermana is Appointed to the Board of Directors of
La Unidad Latina Foundation

New York, NY - On October 28, 2004, members of La Unidad Latina/Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. announced that Hermana Carmen Maldonado of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. has been appointed to the Board of Directors of La Unidad Latina Foundation (LULF).

The La Unidad Latina Foundation was established by the Board of Trustees of La Unidad Latina/Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. on September 18, 1999 to serve as an independent, nonprofit, non partisan charitable organization dedicated to educational achievement and civic empowerment in the Latino community. Its mission is to promote academic excellence for Latinos.

The objectives of the Foundation are to award scholarships and grants to worthy and needy students for the pursuit of higher education, encourage participation of Latinos in educational programs and activities and support community programs which aid in the civic empowerment and educational improvement of the Latino community.

"Hermana Carmen's two year term on the seven member board of LULF begins November 1st. We are happy to have her join us in pursuing the Foundation's mission of providing scholarships to worthy Latino college students and grants to Latino student-serving organizations. Over the past four years, we've given over $30,000 in scholarships and over $16,000 in grants to organizations across the country. As a board member, she will be responsible to fundraise money for our programs, be involved in strategic planning, review applications, and make scholarship and grant decisions. Personally, I have respected her commitment to education particularly for Latinos, and her management experience and history of organizational leadership since our undergraduate years at U Penn," said Hermano Erik Paulino, Treasurer of the Board of Directors.

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University as an organization that would provide sisterhood and support while also promoting academic achievement, service to the community and cultural enrichment. Almost seventeen years since its establishment, the organization has expanded to 30 schools across the country, touching the lives of more than 300 women.
