National Performance Team Steps for BET

New York, NY - The National Performance Team (NPT) of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., was one of two teams that were invited to step at BET's Hip-Hop Basketball Throw Down at Basketball City (Chelsea Pier) on Friday, August 20, 2004.

Fellow steppers of La Unidad Latina/Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. performed along side the savvy, lively and unique National Performance Team (NPT) of Sigma Lambda Upsilon as they stepped to impress members of BET and exclusively invited guests. Among the BET spectators was on air talent Tigger of Rap City who clapped his hands and smiled with enjoyment as both teams performed.

Members of the National Performance Team (NPT) of Sigma Lambda Upsilon were made aware of the opportunity to perform for the half-time show after BET contacted LatinoStep.com. This contact confirms that BET is well aware that step teams affiliated with LatinoStep.com come highly recommended. Thus, BET wanted to give two of the best teams the chance to show off their moves and entertain crowds. The teams' performance wasn't for mere entertainment, but a test for producers of 106 & Park to explore the possibility of airing a special broadcast on Latino Greek step teams as they do with the Noble Nine.

"I think the performance went well. We cut and pasted pieces from our original show to fit the BET half time show. I think it was a great opportunity for exposure and I know that if they liked our performance, we might have an opportunity to appear on 106 & Park. This can be a break through for all Latino Greek organizations. More people will learn about us and what we do", said Jennifer Rodriguez, NPT Co-President.

National Performance Team (NPT) of Sigma Lambda Upsilon future performances include: Step Show at Ramapo on October 4th , 2004, Stomp Fest in Rhode Island on November 6th, 2004 and Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. National Convention at Yale University from December 3rd -5th , 2004.

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University as an organization that would provide sisterhood and support while also promoting academic achievement, service to the community and cultural enrichment. Almost seventeen years since its establishment, the organization has expanded to 30 schools across the country, touching the lives of more than 300 women.
