Join SLU as They Take Aim at the HIV/AIDS
Epidemic
New York, NY- The Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas
Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. will be participating in the 20th Annual
AIDS Walk New York, which will take place on Sunday, May 18, 2005
at Central Park.
Hermanas will be among thousands of supporters gearing up for a 6.2
mile walk around Central Park. Last year, the Walk attracted 45,000
walkers along with 2,000 volunteers. The purpose of AIDS Walk New
York is to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic and solicit funds
for the cause. In 2004, organizers raised nearly $5.6 million in support
of the Gay Men's Health Crisis and other AIDS service organizations.
"It's great that we, SLU, have the opportunity to participate
in this function
I personally feel that we, as a people, are
all affected by this disease in one form or another. I've had relatives
and a close family friend of mine pass away from this disease and
if there is any way I can help fight this epidemic I will
I
believe that being able to join together for the same cause is beautiful.
An event like this shows how many people care to unite for one common
goal," says Hermana Gloria Ramos, Community Service Chair for
Omicron chapter.
Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc.
was founded on December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University as an organization
