Carmen Monroy, a single mother of two boys, pledged her
senior year at UMass-Amherst. A Sociology and Legal Studies major, Carmen was also
director of CAYANA, a Dominican folkloric dance group at the university. Presently, Carmen
works at the university.
Elizabeth
Sanchez a communications major with a minor in Spanish, pledged her Sophomore year at
UMass-Amherst. Elizabeth was a member of CAYANA. She loves to perform
in front of people.
Jennifer Lodge, an English/Journalism major pledged her junior year. Jennifer has
actively taken part in improving the UMass campus as a Peer Health Educator, tutor and
Resident Assistant. She loves to sing and dance.
Shahira Payano pledged as a Senior English/Political Science major. As
chairperson of Casa Dominicana, Shahira had the opportunity to educate the campus
community about pressing issues Latinos face.
