On
March 30, 2002 four women founded the first and only Latina Organization on
the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. These four women, H.
Dahlia Bibbins Velarde, H. Jessica Tirado, H. Mayra Espinoza, and H. Sonia
Beasares; recognized a need for diversity and wanted to create a voice for
Latinas on their campus. They sought out an organization that would inspire
them with its professionalism, determination, leadership, cultural awareness,
academic excellence and most of all an everlasting sisterhood.
