New York, New York – The Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., in mutual solidarity with all members of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), encourages the greater community at large to support the fundraising efforts of the “Jonel Gonzalez Family Fund.”

The awareness that has been generated by the recent events that the Gonzalez family is coping with serves as a reminder that a community in unity and solidarity has the ability to generate a greater prevailing voice than one that is made in solitude. The National Leadership Team of Sigma Lambda Upsilon sends our sincerest condolences to Hermano Jonel Gonzalez of La Unidad Latina/Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. and his family during this trying time. We commend the activism efforts of La Unidad Latina, NALFO member organizations, the greater community at large, and our Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon who are actively leading various support efforts on behalf of the Gonzalez family.
Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latina Unidas Sorority, Inc., founded on December 1,1987 on the campus of Binghamton University, provides sisterhood and support while also promoting academic achievement, service to the community, leadership and cultural enrichment to college educated and professional women dedicated to uplifting traditionally marginalized communities. Since its establishment, the organization has expanded to over 35 schools across the country, touching the lives of more than 700 women.
National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) was established in 1998 and serves as the coalition for 20 Latino/a fraternities and sororities nationwide. NALFO promotes and fosters positive inter fraternal relations, communication and development of Latino fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism, and education.
