Hermana Among 40 Under 40 Rising Latino Stars

Albany, New York – During the 2011 Somos El Futuro Conference, Hermana Angie Aguilar was recognized as one of this year’s 40 under 40 Rising Latino Stars. She was recognized by The Hispanic Coalition NY, Inc. for her efforts as a community organizer in Long Island.

Angie Aguilar became a part of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. in Spring 2007 while attending the University of Albany (Mu Chapter). She is currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate at Florida Coastal School of Law and previously served as a Census community organizer.

 “As a result of her leadership, passion and dedication to service, Angie Aguilar is a true inspiration for our younger and seasoned Hermanas” says Daisy Torres, President. Leila Viera, a current undergraduate Hermana of Mu Chapter, added “Angie is an extremely inspirational woman. She is dedicated and sets forth to accomplish everything she puts her mind to, to the best of her abilities. She is personable and lovable, all the while remaining professional and goal-oriented. I am very proud of all that Angie has accomplished. She is very deserving of this award!”

 In addition to being grateful for the recognition, Angie humbly accepted the award and shared that she would “continue to help people, whether it is on an individual level or on a grassroots level …public service has always been close to my heart, like the people who taught me its value.”

 The 40 Under 40 Rising Latino Stars! were recognized at a reception on Saturday, April 2nd in Albany. This initiative seeks to highlight accomplishments and achievements by the many Latinos in the New York region who are making the state a better place for everyone. Angie joins 39 other Latino leaders including an educators, DREAM Act organizers, government officials, and non-profit executive directors.
