New York, NY- Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. (SLU) will join the National Education Association (NEA) to celebrate Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Wednesday March 2, 2011. Beginning in 1998, NEA's Read Across America encourages reading to every child in every community. It is an annual reading motivation and awareness program.
Hermanas and chapters will join their local communities to plan events in schools, libraries, bookstores and various locations nationwide. “Everyone has a Dr. Seuss book that they can share with a child to spark a love of reading, leading to future educational success.” says Stephanie Cabrera, Director of Philanthropy.
Founded in 1857, NEA’s mission to advocate for education professionals and to unite our members and the nation to fulfill the promise of public education to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world.
