Rochester, NY - Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. is excited to announce that they are currently accepting applications for the Sigma Lambda LADYS program.
The Sigma Lambda LADYS program stands for Leadership, Advancement, and Development of our Young Sisters. It's a mentorship program designed and geared toward young women ages 14 to 18 that promotes sisterhood, cultural pride, academic excellence and service to the community within its participants, with an emphasis on college and career preparation.
"Working with the Sigma Lambda LADYS program has given me more fulfillments that I ever imaged. Seeing the young women preparing for their future and feeling so excited has been an excitement for me as well," says Hermana Maria Caldwell-Richart, Vice President of the Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter.
Keeping in line with the sorority's philanthropy of Literacy, each participant will awarded the Sigma Lambda LADYS Book Scholarship worth $200. Participants must successfully complete both High School and the program in order to receive this award. This year, three young women are expected to complete the program and receive the scholarship to assist them with the economic demands of college. Two of the Sigma Lambda LADYS will be attending St. John Fisher College while the other plans to attend Alfred University.
To ensure the commitment of the participants, we require the young ladies who are interested in the program to complete an application for selection. Candidates must be a full-time or part- time High School student, be entering her sophomore or junior year in high school this fall, and has maintained a certain GPA outlined in the application.
