Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter Wins the NALFO Award for Philanthropic Excellence by an Alumni Chapter

New York, NY - The Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/SeƱoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. received the award for Philanthropic Excellence by an Alumni Chapter at the Latino Greek Awards presented by the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations held on Saturday, October 1, 2005.

The Theta Epsilon Graduate/Professional Chapter of Buffalo/Rochester, NY was the founding chapter of the Sigma Lambda LADYS program. The program promotes sisterhood, cultural pride, academic excellence and service to the community within its participants. The program also offers college and career preparation, emphasizing its importance. The Sigma Lambda LADYS are paired with an Hermana from the chapter, who acts as a mentor to the young woman. Each of the Sigma Lambda LADYS participates in group activities as well as individual meets with their mentor to ensure team work and one-on-one attention that is needed.

For the past few years, the chapter has executed an outstanding program, often with limited resources, and have achieved the goals set out for the program without comprise. Their dedication is admirable, their time is valued, and their commitment to the community is treasured. I thank them for continuing to live out our organization's goals and ideals through the program and their daily lives," said Hermana Melodie Maldonado, NALFO Representative.
