Iota Chapter Accomplishments


Spring 2009

Hermana Yasmin Hernandez, artist, activist, and educator is the 2009 recipient of the Doña Adelfa Vera Award which is being organized by ProLibertad Freedom Campaign on March 27, 2009.

Hermana Sasha M. Lopez was tapped into the Order of Omega, a Greek honor society at Cornell University.

Congratulations to Hermana Sasha Lopez for being selected as the 2009 John S. Dyson '65 Citizenship Award. This award was announced at the 12th Annual A.D. White Leadership Conference.

Hermana Sasha Lopez becomes the first MGLC members to be featured under the Member Spotlight section of the Cornell MGLC Website. She was nominated by her Greek peers.



Summer 2008

Congratulations to Hermana Yasmin Hernandez on being featured and honored in CASA’s 6th Annual Warrior Womyn/Mujeres Guerreras Annual Cultural Celebration A Brujas Brew.


Spring 2008

Hermana Sasha Lopez recognized by the Student Activities Office and the Office of the Dean of Students at Cornell University as a New Volunteer for her dedication to La Asociacion Latina and Cuban American Student Association.


Fall 2007

Hermana Raysa Segura received the Emerging Social Work Leader Award from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) NYC Chapter.


Spring 2005

Cornell University's Latino Studies Program awards Hermana Daisy Torres a certificate of appreciation as an Outstanding Senior. Iota Chapter receives an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Multicultural Greek Letter Council by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.


Spring 2004

Iota Chapter receives an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Multicultural Greek Letter Council by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.

Hermana Daisy Torres receives Outstanding Chapter Leader by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.

The Office of Student Activities recognizes Hermana Daisy Torres as an Outstanding Activist for her efforts with the Multicultural Greek Letter Council.

Ujamaa Residential College awards Hermana Daisy Torres the Angela Davis Award for continuing to live and work for the advancement of people of color at Cornell and beyond.



Spring 2003

Hermana Daisy Torres receives an award entitled Outstanding New Leader from the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.


Fall 2003

At the 16th annual convention, Hermana Daisy Torres is awarded a Cacique Award for Leadership.

Tompkins County Human Rights Commission awards Hermana Daisy Torres with the William De Winter Award which is bestowed upon a young person involved in human rights work, informing the public on human rights and working toward positive solutions for these issues within Tompkins County.



1995-2000

The first Latina sorority at Cornell University to have a chapter house which was also open and welcoming of non-Greek students. 109 Barton was not only a residence but also hosted social and cultural events as well as served as community space.
