HISTORY

Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Senoritas Latinas Unidas was founded on Cornell University on April 10, 1993, and expanded to Ithaca College in the Spring of 2008. The founding Hermanas of Iota Chapter include:

Hermana Monique Carrero-Tagle
Hermana Diamar Román Martinez
Hermana Claudia Ramirez
Hermana Sally Bisonó
Hermana Kim Oriol
Hermana Vanessa Anníbali

Our passion to serve our community inspires us to provide personal and academic support to all Latinas, foster leadership among women, and create interactive programs that would generate awareness of the Latino culture. Our signature events include La Hora del Cuento, Bowling for Books, and Denim Day in LA & USA Awareness.

The 37 women of the Iota Chapter, who have vowed to uphold the goals of the Sorority Hasta La Muerte, have never allowed for Latino issues to be ignored. This has been evident in their participation in the 1993 Day Hall Takeover and in their present Lucha for Ethnic Studies.
