Sigma Lambda Upsilon

Alpha Iota Chapter

Hamilton College

HISTORY

On April 12th, 2008, The Ambitious & Innovative Alpha Iota Chapter was founded at Hamilton College. The founding line of the Alpha Iota chapter includes Hermanas Stephanie Tafur, Hannah Roth, and Jatnna Amador. These three dedicated young women believed that they needed to bring an organization in hopes of bridging the gap between the campus and its diverse community through education and philanthropy. After doing their research they found what they were looking for in Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. They felt strongly connected with the mission, Goals, and Ideals that Hermanas truly embodied. They felt that ΣΛΥ could equip them with the tools to provide a voice for the unheard and under-represented at Hamilton College and felt empowered to bring about proactive change.

In Spring 2009, Beta Line was born--Laura Lee Smith and Denise Ghartey embarked on an unforgettable journey. Alpha Iota is continuing to make an impact on their campus-full force-anticipating to share with the world what the Alpha Iota Chapter has to offer!
